This 15 Day – Uganda Family Glamorous Glamping Safari & Volunteer trip starts and ends in Entebbe international Airport where you meet and greet with our company representative. We come up close to man’s closest relative (Chimpanzees and Gorillas) which is a humbling experience. Our trip will bring you close to your family after your busy schedules and also you will be able to answer emails if you wish because of our camps are well powered with solar systems- you can choose to stay out and gaze at the stars as you enjoy each other’s story!e!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe international Airport and transfer to your Hotel
Meet and greet at Entebbe International Airport where your Uganda self-drive private Adventure Safari starts by our representative who will warmly welcome you and facilitate seamless arrival formalities.Depending on the time of arrival you are advised to have money Changed on this day and time allowing you may go for city tour with the help of our driver/guide, visit the shopping Malls around town and craft villages to get items which you may need while in upcountry. Day 2: Domestic Flight Transfer to Semiliki National Park – Sundowner Guided Game Drives
After morning Breakfast, our representative will transfer you to the Airstrip or to Entebbe international Airport for your domestic flight transfer to Semiliki National Park. Here you will meet and greet with your guide who will transfer you to the lodge and later enjoy your lunch.

In the Afternoon, explore the open savannah on a guided sundowner game drive – Uganda Wildlife Authority has designed three tracks across the open savannah grassland of Tooro Semiliki Wildlife Reserve where guests can have either a morning, afternoon or night guided game drives in search for small forest and larger savannah elephants which are regularly seen through the open safari vehicles. Many other animals such as waterbucks, warthogs, and bush bucks, Buffalos, Uganda Kobs and Elephants can easily be seen with a good chance to encounter a leopard and Bushbabies or even the white tailed mongoose.

Day 3: Morning Boat cruise on Lake Albert, enjoy the Shoebill view – Afternoon Walking Safari to the Hot springs
If there are visitors who are keen birders and on the lookout for a shoebill, then the ideal place is here in Semiliki reserve where you will have a morning guided boat safari operated by Semiliki Safari lodge to only be rewarded by the top most attractions of the shoebills, African pygmy goose, Blue Breasted and Blue cheeked Bee – eater as well as the Blue – headed Coucal.

Whilst the Birders can have an ideal 7km hike to Nyaburogo Gorge, walking through the diversity of savannah, woodland, and in a forest Gorge where guests will be able to sight the arrow marked babbler, tropical boubal, black headed Bushrike, luhdrers Bushrike and primates at an extra fee.

After an early hot lunch (you can also have a picnic lunch this day – inform us on how you want this day to be and we will arrange it)
We depart for the hot springs tour, enjoying a full day pursuing the Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve, The Park is dominated by the easternmost extension of the great Ituri Forest of the Congo Basin. This is one of Africa’s most ancient and bio-diverse forests; one of the few that survived the last ice age, 12-18,000 years ago. Your guide will point out and explain the park’s diversity of wildlife and flora and fauna. The Sempaya hot springs are Semliki’s most famous attraction. There’s a “male” spring, known as Bintente, measuring 12m in diameter and is set in a lush swampy clearing. The “female” spring Nyasimbi, meaning “the female ancestors”, is a boiling geyser (103°C) which spurts bubbling water and steam up to two meters high – the steam cloud can be seen from as far as 2km away. Local residents used to cook their food in these boiling pools.

Day 4: Morning transfer to Kibale National Park – Afternoon optional guided crater Hike to the view point, you may spend the afternoon at your lodge
Arise at leisure and go to the restaurant, enjoy your hot breakfast as your guide arranges your bags in your vehicle, you will then transfer Kibale National Park reaching in time to check in for lunch and relax whole day at the lodge or you may have an optional crater hike, optional hike to the top of the World or enjoy a Bigodi swamp walk at an extra fee. Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Tooro Palace
After breakfast at your lodge, transfer to the starting point of your Chimpanzee trekking experience in Kibale Forest National Park which is reputed to have the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. The most famous of its 13 species is the Chimpanzee, man’s closest relative. Kibale’s 1450 Chimpanzee represent Uganda’s largest population of this endangered primate. Kibale is also a home to the rare I’Hoest’s monkey. Other primates include the black and white Colobus, Blue monkey, Grey cheeked mangabey, Red tailed monkey, Olive baboon to mention but a few. So you will enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many others.

After a hot lunch, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori back drops – Pass via the Royal Tooro Palace for history and culture encounter before proceeding with your Journey.

Day 6: Predator (Lion Tracking experience along your morning game drive) – Sundowner Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward
Today you will meet and greet with the team of Kings and Queens in Queen Elizabeth National Park, alongside your Lion tracking expedition, you will have a memorable game drive as you comb the open savannah for radio – collared lions. You may speak to the head of the team about so much questions that may be running through our mind about the predators.

We will then have a Bush Breakfast and later leisurely continue with a guided game drive or proceed to the lodge and relax at the pool, restaurant or in our tents as we wait for lunch and the afternoon well certain adventure!

After a hot lunch, we relax and at 4:00 o’clock, we will take a unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and this launch/cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colourful and stupendous, with well over 550 resident species.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park – Home to Tree Climbing Lions for a Game Drive
After your breakfast, pack-up your bags and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha Plains, a Sector in Queen Elizabeth, enjoy the wilderness on a guided game drive, encounter its habitants that are highlighted by Uganda’s Tree Climbing Lions as well as numerous Birds and more Mammals on a sundowner. The drive takes you through the Switzerland of Africa area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening. Day 8: Gorilla Trekking Experience
After an early breakfast depart to the starting point for briefing about your gorilla trekking adventure after which you will be led by experienced gorilla trackers on the slopes of the volcanoes. You will start from the site where the gorillas were encountered the day before and from here the gorilla tracking begins. Although the hike can be physically demanding, the anticipation of the exciting experience ahead is amazing, and the beauty of the gorilla forest and its inhabitants are fascinating.

One of Africa’s major highlights is when you encounter these gentle apes. It is a humbling experience to stand just meters from man’s distant cousins as they eat rest, play and bond with their young ones. Follow the mountain gorillas as they range freely in the impenetrable forest, and discover their gorgeous natural habitual and the many species they share it with. You are allowed an hour with the gorillas before finally sloping down back to your lodge.

Day 9: Domestic Flight to Entebbe – Enjoy an afternoon Boat transfer to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary for your Volunteer work
Have Breakfast at the Lodge, transfer to the Airstrip for your flight to Entebbe/Kanjansi Airstrip where you will meet and greet with your guide or another company Representative who will transfer you to the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

There are 52 Chimpanzees of which 46 are orphaned and six are born in the captive – They keeping roaming in the 95 acre forest to enjoy the fruits and Vegetation of the forest. These chimpanzees are often given food supplementary four times in a day. (8:00 am, 11:00am, 2:00pm while at the forest enclosure and platform view and the last feeding is at 6:00pm at the holding facility respectively) which you our guests will be in position to attend all the feeding sessions throughout the time you will be at the island.

The Island is approximately 23km from water front club Entebbe opposite Uganda Wildlife Education centre (formally Zoo) gate which is our departure and arrival point – whilst the memorable boat cruise takes us 45minutes – one hour transfer as we enjoy the stupendous Birdlife, serenity of lake Victoria, the view of the neighbouring dappled islands and we can wave to the fishermen here!

Day 10: After morning briefing, you will participate in Arranging and cleaning Chimpanzee Foods
Wakeup depending on the briefing in the previous evening, you will transfer to the restaurant for your breakfast and today you will have an opportunity to join a dedicated conservation care takers team and arrange and clean the food which is going to be eaten by the chimpanzees. Each chimpanzee in this captive may consume a tenth of supplementary food of its body weight. Overnight: Ngamba Eco Lodge

Day 11: After morning Briefing, you will participate in Cleaning the Holding Facility
We wake up again on a beautiful day knowing we are in a wild but tamed environment with lots of Birdlife, visiting monitor lizards, occasional otters, roaming butterflies, lizards and the crossing fishermen. We will have our Breakfast and later transfer to join a team of experienced care takers and clean the holding facility – make recommendations on how they can improve the hygiene and the strength of the facility if there is need. Day 12: After Morning Briefing, you will participate in monitoring and recording the Behaviour of a Particular Chimpanzee
Today is our fourth day and we seem so much in love with the environment, we will rise on the African sunrise, it is always sparkling yellow/orange like striking the lake and causing a spectacular reflection of the forest enclosure – we head to the restaurant just next to our accommodation and enjoy our breakfast before heading to spend our day with the researcher group!.
Depending on which chimpanzee allocated to you, you may or may not see it during the feeding time and also you may not see or you may have a chance to see it during the last feeding in the holding facility in the evening as they tend to either nest in the forest or return to the holding facility. Thus today you will record their eating habits, how they relate with other chimpanzees as well as their health.

Day 13: After Briefing, Make Guardian stories for the Chimpanzee of your choice or as allocated by the guide on ground
The writers are with you today, we are assuming that you have made good friendship with one of the chimpanzees at the island and you can develop a very good story according to how you see him/her. These stories are always published for well-wishers to make subscription to be part of the ongoing conservation work.

You will have all your meals at the restaurant like all days.

Day 14: After Briefing, Participate in arranging food, cleaning the holding facility and crown your day with recording the health of the Chimpanzee allocated.
Today is our second last day and thus, we will wake up normally as per our last briefing and we will be allocated in most departments for our finale touches. We will spend time with the care takers arranging food, we will also be with the cleaners of the facility and finally record, participate in photography before the day closes. Day 15: Depending on the flight time, you may either have a 9:00 or a 4:00pm 45minutes – 1hour Boat transfer to the Main land.

Depending on time of flight departure, you will close your volunteer work with a mini meeting at the visitor information centre where you will be taken through the adoption or guardianship programme. Here you may choose to adopt, feed, or become a guardian in the near future or take information home to friends and family. This helps the organisation to support the captive smoothly.

We will enjoy a 45min – 1hours boat transfer to the mainland where you will meet again with your guide. We will transfer you to the craft market where you will have souvenir shopping for your family/friends at home, later we transfer to the Airport for our outbound flight back home/t the next destination.

Please note: That if this safari is booked during July, our guests have a chance in participating in Chimpanzee annual Health checks that take place in July every year. Here guests get a chance in working close with the in house Doctors carrying out health assessments, weight assessments and Chimpanzee menu assessments among others – This activity is done at an extra fee independent of already paid fees and it is still optional if a guest does not wish to participate.
