‘’You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you make does a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference to make,’’ – Jane Goodall

Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a proud Jane Goodall project, a well-known primatologist. Here volunteers have the unique opportunity to participate in chimpanzee health checks, playing a crucial role in the care and well-being of over 52 resident chimpanzees. These health assessments, primarily conducted in July, require vaccinations, and a detailed list of necessary vaccinations will be shared upon inquiry. During a week of immersive volunteer work, you’ll assist the sanctuary staff in monitoring the health of the chimpanzees by observing their behavior, conducting health assessments, and providing enrichment activities to promote their physical and mental well-being.

The welfare of these chimpanzees is supplemented by donated food from well-wishers, and volunteers will learn about the adoption process and how to continue feeding a chimpanzee properly. This hands-on experience not only helps ensure the chimpanzees thrive but also allows you to learn about their natural behaviours and conservation efforts. While health checks are concentrated in July, volunteer opportunities are available year-round, allowing you to book your experience at any time. Volunteers leave with a deeper understanding of primate health, conservation challenges, and the impact of their contributions in a nurturing environment dedicated to these endangered animals.
